MFB Cars is a family business operated by Mike and Frances Brett, established in 1991, and based in Uckfield.
Private Hire is similar to a taxi service, in that we are licensed by our District Council, we are CRB checked, have regular medicals (like airline pilots) and the vehicles are regularly inspected. However, we are not allowed to display the word “taxi” on the vehicles or in advertising. We cannot stand on a taxi rank or be hailed in the street. All our rides have to be pre-booked.
Our catchment area runs from Haywards Heath/Lindfield in the west to the far end of the A272 beyond Hadlow Down in the east. We cover Uckfield and the surrounding villages, i.e. Nutley, Fairwarp, Maresfield, Buxted, Framfield, Blackboys, East Hoathly, Halland, Ridgewood, Little Horsted, Isfield, Newick, Fletching, Piltdown, Sheffield Park, Danehill and Chelwood Gate.
Over the years we have formed working relationships with a number of other self-employed Private Hire operators in the Uckfield area, so we are part of a group which has evolved into a network which can provide normal cars like ours for “taxi” journeys such as airports, cruise terminals, hospital visits, shopping trips, but we can also access “posh” cars such as Mercedes or big BMW for weddings or special occasions, or people carriers and minibuses for larger groups of people.
We only work with other Private Hire or Taxi operators who share our philosophy. Reliability, honesty, and friendliness are our keynotes, and our prices are always competitive with local taxi firms.
Our cars do not have meters so any price quoted at the start of the journey will be honoured irrespective of delays or diversions due to traffic jams, road works, etc. When making a booking please state the number of people travelling and the amount of luggage, so we can arrange a suitable vehicle. If small children are travelling in your party you will need to provide a child seat appropriate for their size. On airport runs we are happy to retain the child seat and bring it for the return journey at no extra cost. Many of our regular customers enjoy a monthly account service at no extra cost, which removes the need to carry cash.
All major credit cards accepted. Please advise when booking if you wish to pay by credit card.
